The hardware attached to the head rail is known as the lifting mechanism. Some of the options for lifting mechanisms are:
Board: The lifting hardware is attached to the bottom of this board and your shade is either attached to the front of the board or hung from the board. Each lift cord lifts rings to the top of the shade. The cords are used to lift the shade.
Other Hardware Tools:
1. Screw Eyes: In screw eyes, a cord cleat is used to tie-off the cord at any position.
They are the simplest and least expensive option.
2. Pulleys: Pulleys are used at the location where the cords exit the shade. This makes the shade easier to pull up, but the cord still rubs on the other screw eyes. A cord cleat is used to tie-off the cord at any position.
3. Cord Lock Pulley: A cord lock pulley is used in tandem with the outside pulley. The remaining lift lines use a simple pulley and eliminate the need for a cord cleat.
4. Continuous Loop System: The lift cords are wound around a metal shaft that is suspended from brackets attached to the mounting board. There is no need for a cord cleat.
Non-sewing Tools and Hardware:
Other hardware required for non-sewing purposes are:
1. Screwdriver: It is used to turn the screws used to attach the pulleys and Cord Locks to the mounting board, attach the board itself to the wall or window trim and attach the cord cleat to the wall.
2. Hacksaw: It is used to cut the metal weight rods used in the bottom of the shade.
3. Ice Pick: It can be used in place of an awl to create a "starter" hole for screws or to attach the pulley to the board, hold it in the correct place then make holes where the two screws will go. It can also be used to thread lift cords through the cord drop.
4. Hammer: It is used for completing the stapling process, making a starter hole with the ice pick, etc.
5. Wire Cutters: It is used to cut the (battens to the correct size.
6. C-Clamps: They are used to hold the weight rods and mounting boards while sawing.
7. Staple gun: It is used to attach fabric to the mounting board for a finished look.
8. Metal file: It is used to remove any sharp edges on the metal weight rod after it is cut down to the correct length.
9. Hand saw: It is used to cut the wood mounting board to the correct length.
